What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the process of removing hair permanently
by destroying the hair growing cells (papilla) with an electric
current. Access to the papilla is made by inserting a very fiine
filament into the hair follicle. Through this fine instrument is
transmitted a regulated and controlled electrical current from a
highly sophisticated machine known as an Epilator. The electric
current cauterizes the papilla, thus rendering it impossible to
grow more hair. This process is performed by a highly trained professional
known as an Electrologist.
Electrolysis Works!
Electrolysis worked in 1875. Nearly a century
and a quarter later.. it still works. Ever since Dr. Charles Michele,
a French ophthalmologist practicing in St. Louis, first utilized
a delicate needle to conduct electrical current to remove an eyelash,
electrolysis has been recognized as the only method of permanent
hair removal. In fact, electrolysis is still the only proven safe
method of permanent hair removal recommended by the American Medical
Association. Even the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recognized
this fact when it stopped virtually every other method of hair removal
from claiming permanency. Electrology is the singular profession
to practice permanent hair removal.
Electrolysis has been proven safe and effective
for many generations. Modern equipment is refined and computerized.
Probes are disposable, manufactured delicate, highly polished and
sterile. Electrolysis is nothing like the image portrayed by alternative
temporary methods of hair removal. In fact, it is comfortable, safe
and results in a well-pleased clientele with beautifully smooth,
hair-free skin.
Electrology is a well respected health care
profession receiving physician referrals and medical interaction.
The professional electrologist is well educated in every phase of
the practice of electrolysis. Skills are honed to include service
delivery in a clinical environment and training in recognizing symptoms
of systemic diseases. Very often the electrologist is the first
health care professional to observe a visible symptom of an underlying
health problem. Through observation of the skin, the presentation
of superfluous hair growth and the information of a patient's medical
case history, the professional electrologist is schooled to offer
the appropriate referral to those who exhibit a need for additional
medical care. The total patient/client is considered when excess
hair growth is being addressed in an electrology office. In a safe,
professional environment utilizing universal precautions, the electrolysis
consumer can be assured of the best in quality care.

Sugaring
and Waxing
When a large area presents with a need
for hair removal and the patient needs a fast answer to the problem,
we offer temporary treatments of waxing and sugaring.
Waxing:
A warm soothing application of azulene cream is applied to the skin.
A small strip of muslin is pressed on the area and then removed.
The unwanted hair is embedded in the wax and is removed via the
muslin strip, leaving the skin smooth and hair free. Pressure is
then applied to the area in order to minimize the discomfort.
Sugaring:
A paste of honey, lemon and water is applied to the skin and then
is gently flicked off removing the hair with it. This method is
kinder to the skin than waxing, because it is applied at body temperature.
The sugar paste only adheres to dead epithelial cells and the hairs.
It leaves the skin smooth and silky. It has antibacterial properties
and is non-allergenic. In fact, it was used by the civil war soldiers
for a wound dressing in order to prevent bacterial action from taking
place.
