1. What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the permanent method of hair removal
that employs the use of a small filament (smaller than the hair
itself) inserted into a natural opening of the skin called the hair
follicle. By sending a minute amount of electricity to this area,
the follicle is disabled and can no longer produce a hair. This
is a highly skilled technical application.
2. Does it hurt?
New technology through the state of the art equipment
employed at Hair Goes, Inc. enables our electrologists to treat
even the most sensitive areas with comfort. We counsel on the application
of the new topical creams that totally desensitize the area. There
should be no reason for anyone to experience more discomfort than
a slight heat sensation.
3. Is it really permanent?
YES! Electrolysis remains the only PERMANENT method
of hair removal. Some other medical devices have been granted the
right to claim "permanent reduction". This hype can be
interpreted to mean that if only 1% of the hair does not come back,
then it is permanently reduced.
The FDA has not granted any other technology the right
to say "PERMANENT". It is the only method that the American Medical
Association recognizes as permanent. However, the success of the
treatment is in direct correlation with the skill of the professional.
At Hair Goes, Inc., the electrologists are Board Certified and are
credited with the highest technical expertise.

4. How safe is it?
At Hair Goes, Inc. we adhere to strict infection control
standards. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) developed national
standards for the sterilization of all instruments which may have
parenteral contact. We use pre-sterilized, disposable filaments.
We autoclave our instruments. We follow the Universal Precautions
that include handwashing before and after each patient. We use a
fresh pair of disposable gloves for each patient. These are important
issues that the electrologists at Hair Goes, Inc. take very seriously.
Our sterilization methods are a reason for our reputation within
the medical community. It was one of the main reasons for our being
invited to join the Community Care Physician Group in the new Capital
Region Health Park.
5. How long will it take to get
rid of my hair problem?
This is one of the most complicated questions that
an electrologist has to answer. A technically skilled electrologist
can disable one follicle every 3-4 seconds with the thermolysis
method. There are as many variables as there are patients seeking
treatment that affect the results. The circumstances of each individual
that influence this answer are hair growth cycles, the quantity
and structure of the hair presented, previous use of temporary hair
removal methods, heredity, hormonal problems, physiologic changes,
medications, stress, etc. Consequently, at Hair Goes, Inc., we give
you a free 30 minute consultation in order to take a thorough health
history, assess your needs and concerns in person, answer all of
your questions, give you a complete explanation of the electrolysis
methods and then a brief demonstration. Answering this question
without information from the patient is like a doctor trying to
diagnose a problem without any information from the patient. The
education of our patients is instrumental in the success of their
treatments.
6. How much will it cost?
The most important factor in determining the expense
of electrolysis is the expertise of the electrologist. The correct
insertion of the filament and the application of the current in
the precise location within the follicle requires the utmost accuracy.
In this situation, faster is definitely not better. A delicate balance
between accuracy and efficiency needs to be maintained throughout
the process. At Hair Goes, Inc., with the thermolysis method of
electrolysis, a hair follicle is disabled in approximately 3-4 seconds.
However, the complete answer lies in the consultation
during which we will be able to assess the information given to
us concerning the hair growth and the factors that caused the problem
of that particular patient. A schedule will be set up depending
upon the needs of the patient. All needs are taken into consideration,
including time and financial factors. However, because of hair growth
cycles, there are specific restrictions on the time between appointments
that must be adhered to in order to complete the process.

7. Can unwanted hair be removed
from anywhere on the body?
All areas of the body may be treated with electrolysis
with the exception of hairs inside the nose or inside the ears.
Common areas for treatment are upper and lower lip, brows, outer
ears, hairline, cheeks, chin, neck, chest, back, breast, stomach,
underarms, arms, legs, bikini area, hands, and feet.
8. How do I choose an electrologist?
#1, Board Certification is imperative. The American
Electrology Association has established specific standards including
a national board certification credential, Certified Professional
Electrologist (CPE). This credential requires ongoing continuing
education to maintain board certification. At Hair Goes, Inc. our
electrologists are Board Certified. Ask the electrologist about
educational accomplishments and membership in professional associations.
These associations are excellent sources of educational events,
seminars, equipment updates, and exchanges of information that pertain
to electrolysis. At Hair Goes, Inc. the continuing education of
the electrologist is imperative to the treatment of our clients.
9. Are there any aftereffects
from Electrolysis that can cause damage?
Immediately following treatment there may be some
redness and very slight swelling that should dissipate within the
hour. We apply creams and cover ups that allow the patient to leave
the office with no evidence of treatment.
